barbour brings style back to the country
September 8, 2010
Once synonymous with farmers glut in teak-coloured mud, and affluent countrymen taking their golden retrievers out for a day of shooting, now heritage brand Barbour are making a name for themselves on the frames of the most talked about celebrities. Famed fans such as Sienna Miller, Lily Allen, Alexa Chung and her Arctic Monkey boyfriend Alex Turner and Olivia Palermo have all been bulbed bearing the classic wax jackets. Olivia Palermo was also shot in August 2010’s issue of ASOS magazine modelling the Barbour International jacket which features a belted waistline and the trademark waxed cotton…definitely one for the winter wishlist!

Last September saw Barbour open their first flagship store in the UK, a measure of the brand’s relentless success over the last two years. Now with 11 retail stores in the UK and trading in 40 countries worldwide, the iconic Barbour jackets are making a statement everywhere as the coat becomes the statement piece of A/W ’10.

Barbour is also known for pleaching practicality with style seamlessly. Its hard-working, waterproof material is one of many selling points as well as an undeniably practical feature…no wonder the celebs have been flocking to Barbour before festival season! What’s also great about Barbour jackets is their unbeatable longevity. A Barbour can be returned for repairs, alterations and rewaxing, meaning that it can be passed down from generation to generation with British pride and style.
Anya Hindmarch x Barbour
And now an iconic designer has leapt into the arms of the iconic brand. Who better than Brit girl Anya Hindmarch to produce a ‘must have’ collection of venerable outerwear for the brand…and the result is a perfect composite of Anya’s definitively polished glamour with Barbour’s agriculturally-chic tailoring. Definitely a worthy investment, this winter I’ll be yearning for a downpour with a Barbour around my shoulders!
