Before reading anything about this new, mysterious voice, I was immediately reminded of Mumford & Sons on first listen of ‘The Fear’, Ben’s fourth single from debut album Every Kingdom. The atmospheric, rootsy guitar riff, the hypnotically calming yet equally raucous voice, and the relentlessly building middle eight that climaxes with huge, pounding drums. Very reminiscent of Mumford, but Ben’s beach-like melodies and quivering voice makes for such a distinguished new artist, that you’ll be picturing yourself dipping in and out of clear blue waters, somewhere far, far away.
His album is a great amalgam of all my favourite acoustic artists – think what would happen if Bon Iver’s haunting voice, John Butler Trio’s guitar plucking skills and Jeff Buckley’s hypnotic melodies all came together at once.
Go download it now, I urge you.
