Moving Home: Inspiration

Posted on by Zoe

Over the years, Topshop, Boots and Space NK have remained consistent mainstays on my bank statements. But, since the advent of adulthood, some other unexpected names have been appearing on the list, like John Lewis, Ikea and the oh-so-pretty Homebird in my Cheshire postcode.

Spending money on my digs has become a new and dangerous pastime, where I feel like I just can’t go on without a white, ladder shelving unit, or a heap of “quotable” wall art prints in black and white frames. I’ve become that person who Googles Ikea furniture hacks, and spends a good chunk of the day, daydreaming of ways to rearrange bookcases. Now that I will be moving house, the desire to shop just got even more real, and I’ve been haunting my favourite spots a lot more often than usual. I even plan to spend my 25th birthday hauling in everyone’s favourite Swedish homeware mecca - is that taking it too far? Either way, I can’t wait to put my own stamp on this new little house.

With that, the lovely people over at Luxaflex asked me to share my style influences when it comes to my home-sweet-home, so I thought I’d share the sources of my interior mood board:

1. gh0stparties - this girl can do no wrong when it comes to home styling. Every apartment that she’s lived in has been given the chicest-of-chic gh0stparties stamp, and she documents lots of her findings, tips and hauls on her blog.

2. Pinterest - of course, home hauling just wouldn’t feel right without a digital board to pin all of my favourite pieces onto. I’ve set up my very own board named ‘SPACES’ where I chuck in everything I want to steal a little piece from for my very own. PS. I like a lot of white, neutral and fairy lights in case you hadn’t noticed.

3. Instagram - yes, that may sound broad, but if you search the platform cleverly, you’ll find a whole pile of inspiration and even shops to buy some unique pieces. For example, I found one of my now favourite homeware stores, Darwin and Gray, via Kate’s Instagram, and I’m planning on placing an order for two of their super-cute cushion covers that I haven’t seen in any of the usual haunts. Seek and ye shall find cushions.

4. Mariannan - another blogger who is just so on point with her home style, and seemingly a girl after my own heart with all those throws and fairy lights. I would just love to snuggle up in her living room, drinking hot chai lattes. I think I always have Marianna’s photos in the back of my mind when shopping for anything new. Home decor goals, if ever there were…

And that’s it! Now I’m challenging you to share your style influences on Instagram. Use the hashtag #myluxaflex to share yours and be in with the chance of winning lots of cool prizes! Every 8 weeks, Luxaflex are giving away:

  • £1500 worth of made to measure Luxaflex blinds
  • Runners up will receive a limited edition Julia Vogl blind worth £150
  • A grand prize of commissioned art by Julia Vogl inspired by the MyLuxaflex wall
