The April Playlist

Posted on by Zoe

I’ve been doing a lot of singing along lately, a lot more than usual. I think this has been caused by a few things: a) I’ve been busy planning my year of trips, getaways and festivals b) There are a bunch of irresistibly catchy songs out at the moment c) The sun is out and I’ve been frolicking around like a crazy fool! So, I thought I’d share this particularly upbeat set of songs that … Continue reading

An Afternoon With Bombay Bicycle Club

Posted on by Zoe

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of whiling away a Friday afternoon listening to the sweet, sweet sounds of Jack Steadman and the rest of his indie rock outfit, in the middle of the day and with just a handful of other BBC buffs in tow. Telling friends about my plans to go to a gig in the middle of the day usually leaves them with a confused expression on their faces, understandably. “What kind of … Continue reading

Style Notes: The Haim Gig

Posted on by Zoe

What more could a girl want to help celebrate her birthday than a night in one of her favourite cities with her best friend, and tickets to see one of her favourite bands thrown in for good measure? That’s a tough one to beat in my book. Last weekend, my wonderful best friend took me to see Haim in Manchester, after she surprised me with tickets for my birthday. Having heard from all of my … Continue reading

Cathrine Dal presents…the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition

Posted on by Zoe

Let’s just get this out there. Presenter/fashion model/music mogul Cathrine Dal has to be one of the coolest people I know. It may be sycophantic, but the facts are all there: her taste in music is spot on; she has an overwhelming knowledge of the music industry and she’s basically an all-round babe. Cat hasn’t been on my blog since 2012, when she guested one of her many marvellous exclusively for me and my blog, … Continue reading

5 New Acts To Love In 2014

Posted on by Zoe

It took a little while to get there, but finally my excitement for new music in 2014 has started to kick in! Though January is usually the time I like to scope out the top tips of the year ahead, last month I felt a little bit of “new band fatigue”, not because I didn’t want to listen to anything new, but because nothing that I’d heard or read about had really excited me. However, … Continue reading

My Live Music Bucket List

Posted on by Zoe

With wish lists pouring into my blog reader by the bucket load, and the final (and let’s face it, best) month of 2013 rearing its sparkly little head, I’ve been doing some “retrospecting” of the music variety, and realised that I’ve not fared too badly on the live music side of things this year *go me*. However, there are still a fair few to tick off my “bucket list” of must-see shows. Through blogging and … Continue reading

An Afternoon With Liam Fray

Posted on by Zoe

This week, I was given a special invitation to an acoustic session with Liam Fray, frontman of The Courteeners, at the XFM studios in Manchester. I’ll admit it. Back in the day, Manchester-hailed band The Courteeners only took up a small portion of space on my iPod – ‘Acrylic’ and ‘Not Nineteen Forever’ were the two put-on-repeat winners for me, both recommendations from my best friend. Five years on, and I haven’t really thought about … Continue reading

The November Playlist

Posted on by Zoe

When there’s nothing but minus temps and red-cold hands to come for the next few months, I’ve found two remedies that work well for me: 1) “fuzzy feeling” tunes and 2) an endless supply of salted caramel hot chocolate. Both tasty, and both positively necessary. “Fuzzy feeling” tunes are pretty self-explanatory, but here’s my take: songs that make your tummy feel tickly on the inside. Bright, major chords need not always apply; a song with … Continue reading

The Q Awards 2013!

Posted on by Zoe

Ever since their inception in 1990, the Q Awards have become the UK’s go-to event to celebrate upcoming and legendary indie darlings and rock royalty. So, attending the Q Awards, one of the many, many highlights of the music calendar, was something I never in a million years, thought I would have the opportunity to do. Last week, however, me and Jenna somehow found ourselves at the Grosvenor House hotel, blocking the paparazzi from a … Continue reading

The October Playlist

Posted on by Zoe

I always like to have a mix of old and new in my monthly playlists, and this month is no exception. Spanning from the 1973 right through to 2013 makes this a mix of true old favourites, and a pick of my new obsessions. Download the playlist on Spotify for on-the-move music goodness! 1. HAIM – GO SLOW Last month, Cali sisters Haim dropped their debut album Days Are Gone, and within hours of listening, … Continue reading
