Current Beauty Favourites

Posted on by Zoe

Every now and then I get a hankering to tell you all about some of my favourite beauty bits; I’m one of these people that just loves to stockpile a list of things I love (Listography books are a weakness of mine), then dish them all out to friends and family so that they can go and discover for themselves; whether that be restaurants, films, bands to see live, places to go, and so on. The same is very true of beauty, and I have been doing some serious chinwagging about these products lately. They haven’t ever let me down so I thought I’d share them with you all!

First up, the Emma Hardie Amazing Face Cleansing Balm is just a godsend that makes sloughing off the day feel like a treat rather than a chore. I swore to myself that I would stick this one onto the evening skincare routine only, but somehow it’s wangled its way into the AM schedule too. How on earth did that happen?

Keeping with skincare, the St Tropez Gradual Moisturiser For Face is the only form of tan that will ever come near my chops (excepting that big beaming thing in the sky when the summer comes around, with an SPF to hand of course). My sensitive skin seems to like this one, and though I always opt for the medium/dark option, I’ve never woken up unable to recognise myself, so a big thumbs up for the subtle, sunkissed glow in the dark, winter months.

Hydraluron hit my skincare stash way back in September 2013, when Mrs Hirons posted a “Hall of Fame” review for this little tube of wonder. Since then, I’ve repurchased again and again, and my moisturiser just doesn’t feel the same without it.

Speaking of moisturiser, the Oilatum Natural Repair Face Cream has never let me down. It may seem like a rather dull option, but as the old adage goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Dry to extremely dry skin will drink this up like a big jug of cucumber water on a hot summer’s day. (Recommendation #2 for dry skin: Weleda’s Skin Food, an absolute MUST. Even VB is a fan).

Next up, my second tube of Dior’s Diorskin Nude BB Creme is still going down a treat. Though I veered off course post-summer and dabbled in a few medium coverage foundations for winter, I couldn’t keep my mind off the illustrious Diorskin BB Creme. I like to mix it with something a little more buildable for an evening out, but for an everyday glow, this is my cult product.

For Christmas, I was very kindly gifted The Essential Mascara by Kevyn Aucoin, from my sister-in-law to be, and I’m just dreading the day that this tube runs dry. Since December 25th, I’ve completely abandoned my previously loved Bourjois 2-step Volumizer Mascara, and had eyes only for Kevyn Aucoin’s offering. The clue is in the name - it is essential.

Additional makeup must-haves include MAC’s Painterly Paint Pot, for days when I just can’t face choosing an eyeshadow from my two Naked palettes, and instead opt to be a lazy bum with a slick of Painterly. Though it may be generally perceived as an eyeshadow primer, I like to think of it as a 3-in-1; primer, primper and shadow. There’s no sacrifice with Painterly - it brightens and boosts my tired eyes in one fell swipe.

Only last year did I turn into a blusher lover, believe it or not. My Benefit Hoola bronzer seemed like the only thing I needed to add colour to my cheeks, but it was only when I bought MAC’s Well Dressed that I finally understood how much of a difference a rosy glow makes. Especially when swirled on with the Real Techniques Stippling Brush, a.k.a. the only brush I use to apply blusher. This blusher combo has never let me down, and aside from a few Topshop cream blushers, I have been uninterested in other blusher offerings. This mix serves me well.

Finally, a very much talked about product in the fragrance department. Yes, I gave in to the hype and scribed the Molecule 01 fragrance onto my Christmas wishlist. The bottle has reached the halfway point and I am very much in love. So is my Mum, it would seem, as I caught her spritzing a bottle of her own last weekend, a purchase that she failed to tell me about. “I just loved yours so much!”. We’ve both been graced with those cult “Cult Beauty” comments (click on the reviews to see what I mean), and it’s safe to say that we’re both complete converts of the mysterious Molecule 01.

I got the Crab Tree and Evelyn moisturizer set as a gift and they’re pretty great.
