The Playlist With Lilly Ahlberg

I’m so excited to finally share with you all a brand new series on my blog called “The Playlist”, where I’ll be raiding some of my favourite musicians, tastemakers and trailblazers’ song stashes. I’ve got friends who are doing some incredible things, and who truly inspire me, so I’m going to be discovering the songs and melodies that are inspiring them, and documenting them right here every month in 2015.

For the first instalment of The Playlist, I’ve roped in a gorgeous girl from Sweden called Lilly Ahlberg. If you’re an avid YouTube watcher, then you may already recognise her voice and, more specifically, her cover of “Chocolate” by The 1975, which, to date, has garnered 293k views.

There aren’t many cover songs that have been better than the original – “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele is just one of the exceptions, of course – but for Lilly, covers are a piece of cake. Her lofty, honey-laced voice makes every YouTube cover song I’ve clicked on love at first listen, and just recently she posted “Fade”, one of her originals. Though she’s yet to release an EP, I have no doubt that Lilly won’t remain obscure for long.

Ever since I discovered Lilly, I’ve loved the songs she chooses to sing, but since she sent me her final list of songs, I honestly have not been listening to anything else. Our taste in music is very similar, so if you enjoy my monthly playlists, then you’re sure to be a fan of Lilly’s! So freshen up your Spotify, follow her playlist and be sure to subscribe to Lilly’s channel on YouTube.

“Coward” by Hayden Calnin – I love the whole atmosphere of this track. Has to be heard with either headphones/earphones or good speakers! Hayden really deserves more recognition than he has.

“Sun” by Sleeping At Last – I love the calming and unique vocals of Sleeping At Last, all their tracks are amazing and super chilled.

“Hold Back The River” by James Bay – This man is a genius. His lyrics are so lovely and especially in this track. This is a very honest and relaxing tune.

“Bridges” by Broods – I just recently discovered Broods, and I’m in love! I love the manipulated and breathy vocals. Amazing track!
